What Is Forging?

Forging is a metalworking process that utilizes pressure machinery to apply pressure to a metal billet, causing it to deform plastically so as to obtain forgings with certain mechanical properties, specific shapes and sizes. This process is one of the two main components of forging (including forging and stamping). Through forging, defects such as casting looseness produced during the smelting process of the metal can be eliminated, and the microstructure can be optimized. At the same time, due to the retention of the complete metal flow, the mechanical properties of forgings are usually superior to those of castings of the same material. Forging is very important in the fields of mechanical engineering, aerospace, automotive, general machinery, etc. especially for those important parts with high loads and severe working conditions.
