With over a decade of experience as a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing supplier, we’d like to share some design tips to make your parts easier to machine. By following these tips, you’ll benefit from shorter lead times, higher precision, and better quality! Ensure that the structure of the CNC machined part allows tools to easily cut in and out correctly. This reduces tool changes, enhances efficiency, and lowers manufacturing costs.
In the original design, the hole is positioned too close to the part's vertical wall, causing interference with the drill chuck. This necessitates the use of a non-standard extended tool, which lacks rigidity. In the optimized design, the increased space allows for the use of a standard tool, ensuring better manufacturing precision.
When gear shaping, leave undercut, so that the big gear can hobbing or shaping, and the small gear can shaping.
When planing, there must be enough space for the tools back-off at the front end of the plane, so that the tools can be moved.
When grinding, the transition area between surfaces should preserve the grinding undercut to aid tool operation.
