Do you know methods to enhance manufacturing efficiency for CNC parts? Here are four CNC machining clamp design tips. It's crucial for parts to facilitate easy clamping, ensuring precise positioning and secure fastening. This reduces setup time, thereby enhancing both manufacturing efficiency and quality.
The figure shows the bearing cap that needs to be manufactured. In the original design, clamping at point A is difficult because the general claw isn't long enough, and clamping at point B is also challenging. The optimized design changes the circular conical surface at point B to a cylindrical surface at point C for easier clamping. Alternatively, a cylindrical surface can be added at point D to simplify clamping.
In the original design, clamping the large flat workpiece is challenging. In the optimized design, a tightened flange or hole is added, allowing for secure clamping with screws and pressing plates, as well as easier lifting and carrying.
When working with larger parts, they are typically clamped directly onto the workbench. To ensure the manufacturing surface remains horizontal for easier clamping and positioning, a boss can be added to the part. This boss can be removed if necessary after finishing. In the original design shown, the part lacks a boss, making it difficult to clamp and position. The optimized design includes a boss for accurate positioning and clamping.
In the original design, clamping the part in the three-jaw chuck resulted in point contact between the part and the claw, leading to instability. In the optimized design, a cylindrical surface was added to increase the contact area between the workpiece and the claw. This makes setup easier and improves the stability of the clamping.
